SG DRIVER GETS PUNCHED IN JB AFTER MAKING IILEGAL U-TURN: BOLEH LAND METHOD OF SOLVING PROBLEMS

Singapore-Registered Car Allegedly Makes Illegal Turn in JB, Driver Punched During Confrontation

A confrontation involving a Singapore-registered car and a Malaysian lorry passenger in Johor Bahru reportedly turned violent after an alleged traffic violation, with footage showing the car driver being punched and the vehicle’s side mirror damaged.

The incident took place along Jalan Sutera on Oct 17 at around 4.10pm. The footage was shared on the SG Road Vigilante (SGRV) Facebook page.

According to reports, the driver of the white MG car, which displayed a probationary “P” plate, had allegedly made an illegal U-turn across double white lines before cutting in front of a Malaysia-registered lorry.

Alleged Traffic Violation Led to Confrontation

The car was reportedly travelling against the direction of traffic before making the turn and moving in front of the lorry in the slow-moving right lane, according to a report by Lianhe Zaobao.

Part of the car also briefly obstructed traffic in the adjacent left lane, potentially inconveniencing other motorists.

The situation escalated when a passenger in the lorry allegedly lowered his window and threw an object resembling a roll of tape towards the Singapore-registered car. The act appeared to be a reaction to the car cutting into the lorry’s path.

Rather than continuing on their way, the two vehicles subsequently stopped, setting the stage for a more serious confrontation.

Lorry Passenger Allegedly Threw Punches at Driver

As the vehicles drew closer, the lorry passenger was seen gesturing towards the driver of the MG.

When the car driver opened the door, the passenger got out of the lorry and approached him. The footage appeared to show the passenger throwing at least two punches at the driver, with the car window down.

The confrontation also resulted in damage to the Singapore-registered vehicle. The lorry passenger was seen striking the car with his fist, damaging its right side mirror.

The footage did not establish whether a police report was made or whether any arrests followed the incident.

Online Reactions Divided Over Incident

The video prompted mixed reactions from online commenters, with some condemning the apparent physical assault while others highlighted the importance of responsible driving when travelling overseas.

Some argued that even if the Singaporean driver had committed a traffic violation, physical violence was not an appropriate response.

Others pointed out that drivers visiting Malaysia should familiarise themselves with local road conditions and traffic rules, particularly when navigating unfamiliar junctions or attempting U-turns.

Several commenters also felt that the driver could have handled the situation differently by apologising and avoiding further confrontation.

Singapore Drivers Reminded to Exercise Caution in Malaysia

The incident serves as a reminder that road disputes can escalate quickly, especially when motorists react angrily to perceived traffic offences.

Drivers crossing the Causeway should remain alert to local traffic markings, lane restrictions and road signs. Double white lines generally indicate restrictions on crossing or overtaking, subject to the applicable road rules.

If confronted by an angry motorist, drivers should prioritise their safety, avoid exchanging blows or escalating the argument, and seek assistance from the authorities when necessary.

While road users have a responsibility to follow traffic laws, disagreements on the road should be resolved without resorting to violence.

The circumstances surrounding the incident, including whether the parties involved made official reports, remain unclear based on the available footage and reports.
