Sheng Siong Doubles CHAS Discounts To 8% In June 2026

Singapore supermarket chain Sheng Siong has announced that it will double its discounts for Community Health Assist Scheme (CHAS) cardholders from 4 per cent to 8 per cent throughout June 2026.

The promotion will apply across all 88 Sheng Siong outlets islandwide as part of efforts to help Singaporean households cope with rising living costs and inflation pressures.

Under the temporary scheme, Blue CHAS cardholders can enjoy the enhanced 8 per cent discount every Thursday, while Orange CHAS cardholders can receive the same discount every Friday.

The retailer also confirmed that its existing 4 per cent CHAS discount programme will continue until Dec. 31, 2026.

Netizens Praise Sheng Siong For Supporting Lower-Income Families

Many Singaporeans online welcomed the move, with some praising Sheng Siong for stepping up amid concerns about grocery prices, utility bills, and household expenses.

Several commenters described the initiative as a meaningful way to support lower-income households struggling with the cost of living in Singapore.

One Facebook user even compared Sheng Siong favourably to NTUC FairPrice, claiming the supermarket chain was acting “more like the real social enterprise”.

Others pointed out that every bit of savings matters today, especially for families managing tight monthly budgets while coping with inflation and rising food prices.

The announcement quickly gained traction online, with many Singaporeans sharing their thoughts about supermarket discounts, cashback savings, and grocery loyalty programmes.

Some Singaporeans Question Whether Prices Were Already Marked Up

Despite the positive reactions, not everyone was convinced by the promotion.

Some commenters accused supermarkets of increasing prices before offering discounts, arguing that shoppers may not actually benefit much in the end.

One user claimed the discount merely “returns prices back to square one”, while another questioned whether certain products had already seen price increases before the promotion started.

Such concerns are not uncommon in Singapore whenever major retailers launch large-scale discount campaigns, especially during periods of inflation and higher consumer spending.

The scepticism also reflects growing sensitivity among consumers towards food prices and supermarket pricing strategies.

Green CHAS Cardholders Ask Why They Were Excluded

Apart from pricing concerns, some Singaporeans also questioned why Green CHAS cardholders were excluded from the enhanced 8 per cent promotion.

A number of commenters suggested that Green CHAS holders should still receive at least a smaller discount instead of being left out completely.

Others argued that middle-income households are also facing financial pressures and rising daily expenses.

At the moment, Sheng Siong has not announced any additional benefits for Green CHAS cardholders or whether the 8 per cent promotion could eventually become permanent.

The Community Health Assist Scheme (CHAS) was introduced to help Singaporeans receive subsidies for medical and dental treatments, though more retailers have started using CHAS cards for supermarket promotions and lifestyle discounts in recent years.

With living costs continuing to remain a major concern in Singapore, discounts on groceries and household essentials are likely to remain an important issue for many consumers.
