some of my own friends are exactly like this, and if I say it to their face, later they say I don’t give face. But seriously, I cannot take it anymore. Every weekend, open Telegram, open WhatsApp, confirm will see at least one or two fellas complaining about the exact same thing: “Bro, why life so unfair? Why I work so hard still no money? Why all the SG girls so materialistic, only want guys with continental cars and high salary?”
Every time I hear this, I just want to give them one tight slap.
Work hard? You call your 9-to-5 slack job where you spend 3 hours scrolling TikTok and taking 45-minute toilet breaks “working hard”? The only thing you work hard at is finding new ways to geng MC. You want the high life, you want the passive income, you want to be like those financial influencers on Instagram, but the moment boss give you one extra project, you complain until like the world is ending. Talk about hustle, but your actual energy level lower than the MRT train battery during a breakdown.
And don’t get me started on the gambling. This one is the absolute best. You complain no money to invest, no money to save for BTO, but every Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday, you religiously queue up at Singapore Pools to buy 4D and Toto. Every major football match, you betting hundreds on online sportsbooks. “Bro, this one sure hit one, my system very stable.” Stable your head la. In the end, lose already then eat grass for the rest of the month, crying about inflation and how the government is squeezing you dry. You are literally donating your hard-earned money to the bookies and you still wonder why your bank account balance looks like a phone number without the country code.
Then the funniest part: the dating life. You dress like you just rolled out of bed in your secondary school camp tee and beach slippers, your personality is entirely based on your latest gambling losses, you have zero savings, and you expect some high-flying corporate girl to swoon over you? If a girl looks at your financial habits and runs away, that’s not being materialistic—that’s called basic survival instinct, clear? Why would anyone want to build a future with someone whose retirement plan is literally “waiting to strike Group 1 Toto”?
Wake up la, standard Singaporean dream doesn’t just fall from the sky. Stop buying hope from Singapore Pools, stop blaming the gender ratio or the economy, and actually go put in some real effort. Wake up, look in the mirror, and face reality. If you don’t change your own clown behavior, you can continue staying single and broke until 2030. End of rant.
