In a Multi-Ministry Task Force (MTF) press conference on 21 November, co-chair Lawrence Wong said that the recent increase of the maximum pax for social gatherings and dining-in to 5 persons is “already a very big step”.
He was answering a question that was posed to him about why Singapore is not increasing the max cap to 8 people instead.
Wong said that he and his fellow co-chairs have been talking about an incremental step-by-step approach.
He explained that they are doing so to avoid a resurgence of cases, which will strain and ultimately overwhelm the healthcare system.
MTF watching closely
Wong added that the situation at our hospitals is being watched very closely by the MTF.
They will then decide on what is the next step to take based on the hospitals’ situation and the infections.
He highlighted that the current easement of restrictions is a very big step, which will likely see more interactions and infections.
He then appealed to people to exercise restraint despite the relaxation of certain restrictions.
Wong also added that the next move ahead will be taken around the end of December provided the healthcare system and infection situation is still stable.
