S’PORE CUSTOMS MONITORING VEHICLES THAT BUY CONTRABAND CIGARETTES, FINED $500

Earlier today(04/12/19), a Facebook post was released by Singapore Customs that they are monitoring the areas that have contraband peddlers.

The infamous one that everyone knows is Geylang.

Drivers who are caught buying the cigarettes can be fined S$500 per packet. The above images released by the Singapore customs appears to be a CCTV screenshot from CCTV footages.

For those who think it is safe to buy duty-unpaid cigarettes, think again.

Singapore Customs is monitoring vehicles which frequent areas where peddling of duty-unpaid cigarettes occurs. Drivers who were found with duty-unpaid cigarettes had been issued with composition sums.

A first-time offender who has up to one packet of duty-unpaid cigarettes in his or her possession will be fined $500. Heavier penalties will apply if the offender is found with more duty-unpaid cigarettes and/or if the person is a repeat offender.
