A netizen shared a story about how he was previously convicted of a criminal offence for which he served a one-year prison sentence.
He said that ever since he got released from prison about 2 to 3 years ago, he has been struggling to find a job despite having turned over a new leaf.
He revealed that his real estate agent license was revoked following his prison sentence, and that he has also been barred from picking up jobs such as driving taxis or private hire vehicles (PHVs).
He lamented how his honesty about his convictions during job interviews has come back and haunted him, leaving him unemployed for years as he depended on his savings to get by.
On his situation, the netizen shared that his savings have been fully exhausted and used up and that he is facing the possibility of begging in the streets for food, leaving him feeling helpless and unsure of what he can do now.
Here is what he said
I was convicted in court for minor offenses, for which I served a one-year prison sentence. As humans, we are all prone to making mistakes, and I am genuinely remorseful for my act of theft.
However, since my release 2-3 years ago, I have faced significant repercussions. Not only was my real estate agent license revoked, a decision understandable considering the industry’s sensitivity, but I have also been barred from pursuing alternative employment opportunities such as driving taxis or private hire vehicles (PHVs). Regrettably, my honesty during job interviews about my past conviction has left me unemployed for the past few years.
With my savings exhausted, I am now facing the possibility of resorting to begging for food, which is unfortunately illegal in Singapore. I feel utterly helpless and uncertain about what steps to take. I am at a loss for viable options and seeking guidance in this dire situation.
