A Singaporean activist, Gilbert Goh, shared how he bought about 10 packets of Bee Hoon sets from a reasonably priced Nasi Lemak stall at Bendemeer.
He then distributed the food to the poor elderly living in the vicinity, as part of his charity movement, “do something good for Singapore”.
Here is what he said
Still don’t believe that I could buy meals below $3 at this Bendemeer Hawker Center – with a good-sized chicken wing and egg accompanying the yummy hot bee hoon.
If you want their favorite nasi lemak set it’s only $3 and there are several options to choose from.
I bought ten packs of the $2.70 bee hoon set to distribute to the elderly poor living over there.
There is hope with such considerate hawkers who prefer to provide affordable yummy food than just reaping people off by increasing prices indiscriminately.
The impending GST increase next year and the current war in Ukraine have jacked up food prices justifiably so any stalls that still provide meals at reasonable cost need to be applauded and highlighted.
If you come across a reasonably-priced hawker stall in Singapore, please highlight it to us here – same for those who increase their food prices unreasonably, please also shame them here!
