S’PORE MAN FACES DEATH PENALTY FOR ALLEGED DRUG TRAFFICKING IN MALAYSIA

A Singaporean man and his Malaysian girlfriend were charged in the court on Thursday (August 18) on charges of distributing 9,625 grams of methamphetamine.

Loh Kok Kiong, 49 years old, and Soh Yong Xin, 32 years old, were jointly charged with drug trafficking at a house at Jalan Forest City 15, Forest City, Gelang Patah, here at 11.15 am, 9 August last.

Loh was also charged with two more charges of distributing 1,505 grams of Methamphetamine and Nimetazepam weighing 139 grams at a house in Jalan Sutera Kuning, Taman Sutera here, at 1.30 in the afternoon, on the same date.

The charge was brought in accordance with Section 39B(1)(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act (ADB) 1952 and can be punished under Section 39B(2) of the same act which provides for the death penalty or life imprisonment and not less than 15 lashes, if convicted. 

The two accused nodded in understanding after the charges against them were read before Magistrate Mohd Zulhilmi Ibrahim, however, no confession was recorded from them as the case was under the jurisdiction of the High Court.

Meanwhile, Loh and Soh also pleaded not guilty to the charge of possessing the drug ketamine weighing 666 grams at the same location at 11.15 am, on the same date.

They are charged under Section 12(2) of the ADB 1952 and can be punished under Section 12(3) of the same act which carries a fine of not more than RM100,000 (S$30,890) or a maximum imprisonment of five years or both, if convicted. 

Loh also pleaded not guilty to two charges of possessing 100 grams of ketamine and giving methamphetamine to himself respectively at Forest City and the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division, Iskandar Puteri District Police Headquarters at 11.15am and 10.30pm, the same date.

The two offenses were charged in accordance with Section 12(2) and 15(1)(a) ADB 1952.

The court fixed this 20 Sep for the mention of the case.

The prosecution was handled by Deputy Public Prosecutor Danial Munir while the two accused were not represented by lawyers.
