23-year-old Chan Xin Kai pleaded guilty to 5 charges which includes insulting a woman’s modesty, the sale of obscene videos and criminal intimidation; and he was sentenced to 24 weeks imprisonment on 12 September.

He had secretly filmed and taken photos of at least 20 women while having intercourse with them and sold the photos and videos illegally.

He was between 18 to 20-years-old at the time of the offences.

What happened?

Chan befriended multiple women on the Tinder dating app between 2016 and 2017, and had intercourse with at least 20 women that he met via the app and at his school.

He would take videos and photos of the acts without the consent of the women.

He had a no strings attached relationship with an 18-year-old girl that he met on Tinder in 2018 when he was 19, but they broke contact by the end of the year.

She later received a screenshot from a stranger on Instagram asking her if she was the person in the photo, where she was seen performing an explicit act on a man.

She filed a police report and found out that her explicit videos and pictures were being circulated online.

She then confronted Chan, who told her that he wasn’t responsible for it and that he had deleted the photos, and his phone was lost.

Investigations later revealed that Chan tad taken 56 videos and 112 photos of the girl while they were having intercourse, which he sold in November 2018 for money.

He chose that girl because he felt like he wasn’t as “close” to her as his other partners, creating fake profiles on dating and chat apps impersonating her and selling the videos and photos.

He sold two videos of the girl to two strangers for $160.

Second victim

Chan then sold videos and photos of other women performing the explicit acts for $240, including a 20-year-old woman whom he met on Tinder and slept with regularly for 5 months.

He took 36 photos and 20 videos of her without her consent, while she was performing explicit acts on him.

On 15 May 2019, Chan threatened her via text message, saying that he had her obscene videos/photos and demanded she reply him; she had stopped meeting Chan at the time and didn’t want to meet him anymore.

However, Chan wanted to continue meeting her for intercourse, and threatened to spread her obscene videos and photos if she refused.

The girl then met up with him because she was scared he would circulate the content, and he then lied to her that they had been deleted.
