Walao eh, really must write this post to warn everybody. First time go Thailand, thought want to go explore the famous nightlife, end up almost cannot come back to Singapore. Sibei heng we all still alive to type this, but whole trip mood totally spoiled.
So the story is like this: 4 of us (all guys) went to this bar area in Patpong. Because first time there, zero experience, we just follow people call us go up one bar. Before we go in, we got double check the menu price first okay, not stupid one. We asked the host or waiter how much for one bottle of beer, he clearly told us 130 Baht (around S$5 SGD). We thought, wah sibei cheap, standard Thailand price lor! So the 4 of us each ordered 1 bottle. Drink chill-chill, talk cock, everything normal.
Then time to pay bill comes… WALAO EH, MY HEART NEARLY STOP.
The total bill came out to 5,200 Baht! They charged us 1,300 Baht PER BOTTLE! We ask them why the price suddenly 10 times more, they give us some bullshit excuse say got “show fee”, “service charge”, and “vip tax”. Basically outright extortion!
My friend—you all know the typical Singapore Ah Beng kind, super kpkb and cannot take loss—immediately stand up and start to argue with the staff. He was shouting, “Oi! You talk cock is it? Just now you say 130 Baht!”
Next thing we know, the vibe instantly turned damn dark. Within 10 seconds, 5 or 6 massive Thai bouncers surrounded our table. Then the scariest part: one guy standing near the counter casually pulled out a KNIFE and started playing with it, while another guy standing by the exit adjusted his shirt and showed us a GUN tucked into his waistband. No joke, real weapons, not toys!
At that moment, all our Ah Beng pride instantly disappear into thin air. Kiasi mode activated immediately. We realized if we fight back or refuse to pay, we definitely getting carried out in a body bag. Overseas nobody can save you, call police also no use at that hour. In the end, no choice, we quietly dig out all our cash, pay the 5,200 Baht, and practically sprinted down the stairs back to the main street. Heart beating fast like run IPPT 2.4km.
Moral of the story for all Singaporeans:
- NEVER go to second-floor bars or places with touts in Patpong/Nana/Soi Cowboy, especially if they offer “cheap beer” or “ping pong show”. It’s a classic trap!
- If the price sounds too good to be true, it IS a trap. Stick to reputable, street-level establishments or well-known rooftop bars.
- If you really end up in a situation like this, DO NOT ARGUE. Just pay the money and save your life. Money can earn back, your life only got one!
