Among those arrested was a 53-year-old Singaporean man, who was apprehended during the Malaysian raid. He is set to face charges in a Singapore court on June 13, 2025, under the Gambling Control Act 2022. The operation aimed to dismantle the syndicate and curb illegal betting activities that have been a growing concern in the region.

Seizures and Ongoing Investigations

During the operation, the SPF seized cash and three bank accounts, amounting to an estimated S$200,000, believed to be proceeds from criminal activities. Additionally, various electronic devices, including mobile phones and gambling-related paraphernalia, were confiscated as evidence.

In Singapore, officers from the SPF Criminal Investigation Department and the Land Divisions conducted checks at several locations, including King George’s Avenue, Jurong Street 24, and Ang Mo Kio Street 22. A total of 40 individuals, comprising 39 men and one woman aged between 47 and 84, are currently under investigation for their suspected roles in illegal horse betting activities.

The authorities seized over S$17,000 in cash, along with an array of mobile phones and betting paraphernalia. Preliminary investigations suggest that the arrested individuals were involved in various capacities, including illegal bookmakers, runners, and punters.

Commitment to Combatting Illegal Gambling

The successful operation underscores the commitment of both the SPF and RMP to combat illegal gambling and related criminal activities. The Gambling Control Act 2022 provides law enforcement with the necessary tools to address such offences effectively, and authorities are determined to ensure that those involved in illegal betting face appropriate consequences.

As investigations continue, both police forces are urging the public to report any suspicious activities related to illegal gambling. The crackdown serves as a reminder of the ongoing efforts to maintain law and order and protect the integrity of legal betting practices in the region.Bookmark messageCopy messageExport
