Couple Arrested in Malaysia for Allegedly Distributing Drug-Laced Vape Liquids to Minors
In a significant drug bust, Malaysian authorities have apprehended a 41-year-old Singaporean man and his 38-year-old Malaysian wife for allegedly selling drug-infused vape liquids to schoolchildren. The arrests took place on May 26, 2025, at their rented residence in Jasin Bestari, Melaka, following a coordinated operation by the Jasin district narcotics investigation unit.
Melaka police chief Dzulkhairi Mukhtar revealed that the couple, who had recently married three months prior, were taken into custody around 11 AM. Initial investigations suggest that they had been actively involved in distributing a variety of narcotics, including vape liquids, pills, and powders, throughout the state for the past three months.
During the operation, law enforcement officials seized a substantial quantity of drugs, including 127.5ml of ketamine, which was believed to be intended for use in vape devices. Additionally, authorities confiscated 212 ecstasy pills, 212 Erimin 5 pills, 13.7g of methamphetamine, 10g of cannabis, and 80g of ketamine powder. The total haul is estimated to be sufficient for approximately 786 drug users. Alongside the drugs, police also seized a car and a motorcycle belonging to the couple, with the total value of the confiscated items and assets estimated at RM32,650 (approximately S$9,900).
Both suspects tested positive for methamphetamine during preliminary screenings, indicating their involvement in drug use. According to Mr. Dzulkhairi, the couple allegedly marketed their drugs through social media platforms and personal connections, raising concerns about the accessibility of such substances to minors.
The couple has been remanded for a period of seven days to facilitate ongoing investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which addresses serious drug trafficking offenses. This incident highlights the ongoing challenges faced by authorities in combating drug-related crimes, particularly those targeting vulnerable populations such as schoolchildren.
As the investigation unfolds, local experts are calling for a unified approach across Malaysian states to address the sale of vape products and the associated risks of drug abuse among youth. The case serves as a stark reminder of the need for vigilance and proactive measures to protect children from the dangers of drug exposure.
