S’POREAN PR JAILED FOR CHEATING 23 PEOPLE IN CAROUSELL MASK SCAM

Eunice Anico Liwanag, 24, was sentenced to eight weeks jail and a fine of $3000 for cheating 23 people of nearly $1500 after duping them into believing that she fad face masks to sell during this corona virus period.

The Singaporean PR pleaded guilty to one count of lodging a false police report and three cheating charges. Another twenty other charges of cheating were taken into consideration.

Liwanag’s method of cheating was to advertise face masks for sale on the carousell platform and when the victim transferred the money to her, she would not send the good as promised. To cover her tracks, she made an electronic police report that she had detected unusual money transfers in her bank account.

He noted that she had been “gainfully employed” when she duped her victims. She has since made full restitution to them.

For each count of cheating, she could have been jailed for up to 10 years and fined
