Two more people have preliminarily tested positive for the Omicron variant in Singapore, according to MOH – one of the is imported while the other is a local case.
Both of them are isolated at the NCID and recovering.
One of the cases is a 24-year-old Singaporean woman working as a passenger service staff at Changi Airport.
She tested positive for the coronavirus on 8 December during her weekly Rostered Routine Testing for frontline workers and her PCR test revealed the S-gene Target Failure, which is associated with the Omicron variant.
She was asymptomatic at the time and self-isolated at home after being notified of her test result before being sent to NCID.
The National Public Health Laboratory is also conducting whole-genome sequencing to confirm the variant.
