A 28-year-old man in Taiwan allegedly stabbed and killed his mother following an argument reportedly linked to an S$8 dispute over a jacket, before later falling to his death from a residential building rooftop.
The shocking incident took place on 30 May at Mingde 2nd Road in Keelung’s Qidu District.
According to Taiwanese media reports, police received a call about a domestic dispute at around 5.34pm.
When officers and emergency responders arrived at the scene, they found the man, identified by local media as Wang Nan, severely injured after an apparent fall from height.
He was rushed to hospital but later succumbed to his injuries.
Mother Found Seriously Injured Inside Home
Authorities later discovered Wang’s 59-year-old mother inside the family home with serious injuries believed to have been caused during the altercation.
She was conveyed to hospital but died shortly afterwards.
Preliminary investigations reportedly found that the argument may have started over a sun protection jacket purchased by the mother for Wang’s older brother.
Local reports stated that Wang allegedly became upset after believing his mother treated his older brother more favourably.
According to Taiwanese newspaper United Daily News (UDN), Wang was unemployed and had reportedly argued with his mother on multiple occasions in the past.
Brother Tried To Stop The Fight
Taiwan’s Central News Agency reported that Wang allegedly strangled his mother before stabbing her with a knife during the dispute.
After the attack, he reportedly went up to the rooftop of the residential building before falling from height.
Yahoo Taiwan reported that Wang’s older brother was also present during the argument and attempted to intervene to stop the fight.
Police are continuing investigations into the case, which will be referred to the Keelung District Prosecutors’ Office.
The tragic incident has sparked discussions online in Taiwan about family conflict, unemployment stress, and mental health issues.
Taiwanese authorities have urged members of the public to seek help and remain calm during family disputes to prevent situations from escalating into violence.
