A 17-year-old boy pleaded guilty to one count of voyeurism on 17 November.

He had installed a pinhole camera inside a female toilet to film his schoolmates using it.

He was also convicted of an earlier upskirt offence.

His identity and the name of the school cannot be named due to the Children and Young Persons Act protecting those under-18.

What happened?

The boy had entered one of the female toilets in his secondary school and installed a black pen that was attached with a pinhole camera on the toilet cubicle door.

He had angled the camera towards the toilet seat and filmed a girl using the toilet on 19 August 2020.

When the girl was about to leave the cubicle, she noticed the pen and took a closer look at it.

She then discovered an SD card on the pen and a pinhole camera on top of it.

She handed the pen over to her vice-principal and a police report was subsequently made by the school’s discipline master 2 days after the incident.

The boy also took several upskirt videos of women at MRT stations without their permission since 2019.

He would film the women who were wearing skirts and standing in front of him while he was going up the escalator, using his mobile phone.

The boy then sent a couple of screenshots as well as a video of a woman he filmed at an MRT station on 13 August to a classmate.

District Judge called for a probation suitability report for the boy and his sentencing is due on 15 December.

For the offence of voyeurism, he faces a jail term of up to 2 years, a fine, or both.

For the offence of distributing the voyeuristic image, he faces a jail term of up to 5 years, a fine, or both.
