A man in Thailand allegedly stabbed two female convenience store workers in a violent early morning attack before later telling police he wanted officers to kill him during his arrest.
The incident took place at a convenience store in the Pho Ngam area of Prachin Buri at around 3am on May 28, according to local reports. Police were alerted after receiving emergency calls about a knife attack involving two female employees.
One of the victims, a 33-year-old store worker, suffered more than 10 stab wounds across her body and was left fighting for her life. She was later reported to be in critical condition and placed under close medical supervision. Another female employee sustained injuries to her arm and hand while trying to escape the attack.
The shocking incident has sparked renewed concerns about violent crime and mental health issues in Thailand, particularly involving suspects believed to be under the influence of drugs or intoxicating substances.
Injured Worker Rode Motorcycle While Bleeding To Seek Help
According to rescuers from the Ruam Katanyu Foundation, one of the injured workers managed to ride a motorcycle to their office despite bleeding from her injuries.
She reportedly informed rescuers that her colleague had been seriously wounded inside the convenience store, prompting emergency responders to rush to the scene.
When rescuers arrived, they allegedly found the suspect still inside the premises. He was said to be ransacking the store before fleeing with bottles of alcohol and cash stolen during the attack.
Some rescue workers immediately pursued the suspect while coordinating with police officers. The chase ended when the man was intercepted and restrained before authorities arrived.
Police later recovered two bottles of alcohol and approximately 2,000 Thai baht (about S$79) believed to have been taken from the store.
Suspect Allegedly Wanted ‘Suicide By Cop’
The suspect was identified as 37-year-old Nattawut.
Investigators said he appeared to be under the influence of intoxicating substances when he was arrested. During questioning, he allegedly admitted that he was exhausted with life and wanted to be killed during the arrest process.
Police said the suspect claimed he had previously attempted to take his own life but was unsuccessful. Unable to carry out the act himself, he allegedly hoped the confrontation would result in his death.
Authorities have charged him with robbery committed at night and causing serious physical injury. Further investigations are ongoing and additional charges could potentially be considered depending on the victims’ medical conditions.
Victim Remains In Critical Condition
The most seriously injured victim was transferred from a local hospital to a larger medical facility for specialist treatment as doctors continue monitoring her condition. Medical staff have not released further updates regarding her recovery.
The incident has drawn significant attention across Thailand due to the brutality of the attack and the suspect’s alleged statements following his arrest.
Mental health organisations in Thailand have also reminded members of the public experiencing emotional distress, depression or suicidal thoughts to seek professional support and contact crisis helplines rather than suffering in silence.
