THAI POLICE UNCOVER MULTIPLE BOMBS BURIED IN PHUKET

Bomb Scare Rocks Patong Beach as Police Recover Hidden Explosives

Tourists at Phuket’s world-famous Patong Beach were left stunned yesterday after police uncovered multiple hidden explosive devices buried in the sand. Authorities launched an intensive search after suspects in custody confessed to planting the bombs along popular coastal areas, sparking a major bomb threat operation.

The first device was discovered at approximately 3.45pm, just 50 metres from an earlier find. Police Lieutenant Colonel Wichet Suwanno of Patong Police immediately informed Superintendent Police Colonel Chalermchai Hirasawat. Specialised Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) officers, together with Phuket Provincial Forensic Science teams, quickly secured the area behind a hotel on Theweewong Road.

Officers located a large, dangerous device measuring around 45 centimetres in diameter, buried deep in the sand. EOD teams swiftly disconnected its detonation circuit, preventing any possibility of explosion, and secured it for further forensic analysis.

Multiple Devices Neutralised by Explosive Specialists

Earlier that day, a sweeping search was launched across Surin Beach after one of the arrested suspects admitted to hiding additional bombs. Teams from Region 8 Police, Phuket Provincial Police, Cherng Talay Police, and local officials combed the area with metal detectors and advanced scanning tools.

A suspicious object was soon discovered beneath a tree near a public restroom by a construction site. Specialists conducted a controlled detonation, safely neutralising the device without incident. Yet the drama continued, as at 5.20pm another bomb was located near a police box and lifeguard station at Surin Beach.

This third device was cleverly concealed inside a green resealable drink container, heightening concerns about the suspects’ cunning tactics. Police again rendered it safe before sending it for forensic investigation.

Heightened Security as Police Seek Possible Accomplices

Following the dramatic operation, officials confirmed that all explosives confessed to by the suspects had been recovered and neutralised. However, investigations remain ongoing to determine whether additional devices were planted elsewhere or if other accomplices were involved.

Authorities are urging residents and tourists to stay vigilant, avoid suspicious objects, and immediately report anything unusual to local officials. Police patrols and bomb squads will remain on high alert across Phuket’s beaches as they work to restore calm and ensure tourist safety.
