A woman in Thailand who owes people money, was smacked on the face with a durian by a debt collector on 27 July after failing to pay her debts, according to The Thaiger, a Thai news website.
She then reported the attack to the Mueng Lamphun Police Station.
According to The Thaiger, the woman had borrowed about 20,000 baht (or SGD$760) from a moneylender last year, along with another friend.
However due to the pandemic and her business not doing well, she missed some of the scheduled payments and the loanshark then solder her arrears to debt collectors.
The debt collectors then threatened her and her friend and raided their homes.
The debt collector then told them to increase their loan and interest to clear the old debt, and the two women then accepted it out of fear.
Their debt then soon went up to 700,000 baht (or SGD$26,602) and they had to pay $760 every day until they finish paying the agreed sum.
The woman’s friend then went into hiding, leaving her to deal with the harassment and attacks on her own.
She then went to a government office for help, and the debt collector then agreed to stop the repayment temporarily.
However, he then went to her house to ask for money and it came to a head on 17 July, as the woman was parking her motorcycle at Chang Ron Temple in the Lamphun province and talking on the phone.
A female debt collector then confronted her and smacked her in the face with a durain, before fleeing the scene, leaving the victim with a bloodied face.
