THAILAND INFECTION RATES SURGE SEVERAL FOLDS SINCE JAN, POSSIBILITY OF LOCKDOWN

Back in June, the Prime Minister of Thailand Prayuth Chan-Ocha announced that Thailand will be fully open in 120 days for tourism. Almost a month has passed since the announcement and the situation in Thailand has not improved much since then.

Thailand’s 7 day average of people found infect with Covid-19 has risen sharply since early this year.

According to JHU CSSE Covid-19 data, In Jan the 7 day average of infected cases were approximately between 200-943, the latest updated statistics of 7-day average infection rates has increased to 5,734 on July 6.

A shortage of beds for patients is also a big issue in Thailand. Earlier today Bangkok Post reported that a 50-year-old woman who resides in Bangkok, Huai Kwang district died in her home while waiting for an available hospital bed for over a week.

A possible Thailand Lockdown

According to the National Security Council secretary-general Natthapol Nakpanich a lockdown might be happening in Thailand soon as the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) worries a possibility that daily infection rates might hit 10,000.

However, it is not officially proposed to the Thailand government yet.

Gen Natthapol Nakpanich, head of the CCSA’s operation centre will assess the situation for the next 15 days.
