TOA PAYOH EN BLOC PROJECT – 400 TENANTS AFFECTED

Two HDB blocks located in Toa Payoh will be redeveloped and current tenants will have to relocate.

According to Zao Bao, About 400 affected tenants were informed last year that they would have to relocate by February 15 next year at the latest. 

The affected rental flats, Blocks 29 and 31, Toa Payoh Lorong 5, the location is near Toa Payoh Lorong 4 Food Centre and near the well-known Dragon Head Playground (Singapore Heritage).

According to the 2019 Urban Redevelopment Authority Master Plan, the two rental HDB sites are zoned for residential development. Blocks 28, 30, 32 and 33, which originally sat around them, were included in the Selective Entire Redevelopment Scheme (SERS) in 2003 and were demolished to vacant lots.

Relocation

Around 400 tenants will be affected as they have been notified to move out by 15 Feb 2023, they were notified on 12 of July 2021.

The tenants were informed that they had the choice of renting another unit from HDB or buying a flat. HDB flats can be rented from the open market or through our Public Rental Scheme if eligible.

HDB’s public rental flats are meant for lower-income households who have no other housing options or family support. We also provide temporary housing for families who are awaiting the completion of their new flats.

Tenants will receive $2,500 for relocation.
