One such incident that sparked a heated discussion about customer service and attitudes in Singapore involved a Grab driver and a foreign woman who had just arrived in the city-state. This incident serves as a thought-provoking example of how customer service can significantly impact a traveler’s first impression of a new place.

The Incident on Social Media

The incident began when a foreign woman who had arrived in Singapore shared a video on social media expressing her dissatisfaction with her initial experience in the city. In the video, she made her feelings clear, stating, “People are so rude!” She went on to recount a specific incident involving a Grab driver that left her quite dismayed.

The incident in question revolved around a Grab driver who was tasked with taking the foreign woman to her hotel. Unfortunately, the driver missed her hotel’s location, which led to her having to walk a considerable distance with a heavy bag. She politely requested the driver to make a U-turn due to the inconvenience of her heavy luggage, but to her surprise, the driver declined her request with a curt, “No, walk it.”

Undeterred by the driver’s response, the passenger insisted on her request, explaining that she had paid for a service to be taken directly to her hotel. She pointed out her heavy bag and stated that it was unreasonable to expect her to walk a considerable distance.

To her dismay, the Grab driver informed her that he had another customer waiting and instructed her to disembark, adding, “If you don’t get out right now, I’m going to drive with you to the next customer.”

Desperate to reach her intended destination, the woman continued to plead with the driver. She asked him to return to the original drop-off point and reasoned, “Can you please just take me back to the place you were supposed to drop me off?”

Regrettably, the situation escalated when the driver began driving recklessly, causing the woman to become emotional and burst into tears and ultimately agree with the driver, saying, “Fine, I will walk, whatever.”

Public Reaction

The woman’s video quickly gained traction on social media, sparking outrage and discussions among the online community. Many users expressed their empathy for the woman and their disappointment with the Grab driver’s behavior.
