TOURIST WHO WENT VIRAL IN S’PORE, SAYS M’SIANS ARE NICER & S’POREANS ARE HOSTILE

A female tourist previously went viral after posting a video detailing her negative experience with a Grab driver in Singapore during her holiday here, where the driver refused to drop her off at her stop and insisted she walk there instead, with all her bags.

However, she told the driver that she had paid for the ride and asked him to drop her off at her destination, to which the driver then started driving dangerously and causing her to burst into tears, before she “accepted her fate” and walked to her drop off point.

A lot of Singaporeans offended

Following the incident, the tourist shared that “a lot of Singaporeans got offended” by her last video where she said that Singaporeans are rude and that she misses Malaysia.

She then went on to make a few clarifying points in her subsequent video on TikTok.

She clarified that she didn’t say the whole country (Singapore) was bad, but “anyway since we’re here, let’s compare Malaysia and Singapore from my personal tourist view”.

The tourist said that she read online about how people say Singapore is safer and more stable when it comes to economics, to which she thinks the economics in Singapore are better “based on how expensive it is”; and in terms of safety, she “never felt unsafe in Malaysia”.

Singapore is more hostile and expensive

Adding on, she said that she feels Malaysians are more welcoming and warmer because of them being a developing country as compared to developed countries, which she contributes to the Malaysians living with “so many races there, they’re working on integrating everybody” and people are supportive of her studying Bahasa there and are very nice in general.

However, she emphasized that she didn’t feel this in Singapore.

She did add that “of course I met a lot of beautiful people here (in Singapore) too but in general, it feels more hostile,” which she attributes to the sub-culture of people living in big cities.

Summing her points, she says that from her perspective, “Singapore is just a more hostile and more expensive Malaysia” and she didn’t really feel much difference.

Recap on the incident in Singapore that first made her viral

The incident began when she just arrived in Singapore, and she shared a video on social media expressing her dissatisfaction with her initial experience in the city.

In the video, she made her feelings clear, stating, “People are so rude!” She went on to recount a specific incident involving a Grab driver that left her quite dismayed.

The incident in question revolved around a Grab driver who was tasked with taking the foreign woman to her hotel. Unfortunately, the driver missed her hotel’s location, which led to her having to walk a considerable distance with a heavy bag. She politely requested the driver to make a U-turn due to the inconvenience of her heavy luggage, but to her surprise, the driver declined her request with a curt, “No, walk it.”

Undeterred by the driver’s response, the passenger insisted on her request, explaining that she had paid for a service to be taken directly to her hotel. She pointed out her heavy bag and stated that it was unreasonable to expect her to walk a considerable distance.

To her dismay, the Grab driver informed her that he had another customer waiting and instructed her to disembark, adding, “If you don’t get out right now, I’m going to drive with you to the next customer.”

Desperate to reach her intended destination, the woman continued to plead with the driver. She asked him to return to the original drop-off point and reasoned, “Can you please just take me back to the place you were supposed to drop me off?”

Regrettably, the situation escalated when the driver began driving recklessly, causing the woman to become emotional and burst into tears and ultimately agree with the driver, saying, “Fine, I will walk, whatever.”
