In a heart-pounding incident in South Jakarta, a traffic police officver found himself gripping the hood of a car for dear life as the fleeing driver fled from the scene, according to CNN Indonesia.
The intense encounter, which unfolded on Jan. 3 at approximately 3:30 pm, has garnered widespread attention due to a viral video capturing the dramatic exchange.
The Incident Unfolds
The viral video (see below) showcases a red Avanza car’s driver engaged in a heated argument with traffic officers, adamantly refusing to unlock his car doors.
Each request from the officer to open the car door was met with a repetitive “what for?” from the driver. The tension reached its peak when, seemingly complying with officer instructions, the driver accelerated and sped off, leaving the officer hanging onto the car hood.
The verbal exchange between the officer and the driver underscores the escalating confrontation. The driver’s persistent questioning and the officer’s demands create a volatile atmosphere.
The video documents the officer maintaining a perilous position on the car hood throughout the 6.2km journey from Jalan Denpasar Raya to Jalan Menteng. The officer’s audible expression of concern highlights the inherent dangers of the situation, as fear was plastered all over his face.
Background of the Altercation
The incident is rooted in the Transportation Agency’s monitoring of illegal parking in the Setiabudi District Area. The driver’s alleged provocations, including flipping fingers and repeatedly passing along Jalan Denpasar Raya, set the stage for the dramatic confrontation.
Notably, the driver also hit a motorcyclist during the ride when the officer was hanging on to the hood of his car.
The perilous journey concludes when two citizens intervene, stopping the vehicle at Jalan Menteng. The driver is subsequently taken into custody by the police, bringing a resolution to the situation.
Significantly, the driver extends an apology to the Transportation Agency officer involved, acknowledging the gravity of the incident.
