A heartbreaking twist has emerged in the murder case of a Malaysian university student, as a female relative who had travelled from afar to attend the funeral has suddenly passed away. The 57-year-old woman reportedly suffered respiratory distress in the early hours of the morning, adding yet another layer of grief to an already devastated family.
According to Datuk Rajpal Singh, the lawyer uncle of the slain student, the woman had come all the way from Johor Bahru to assist with the funeral arrangements. Tragically, at around 3am, the family received a call that she had fallen severely ill and required hospitalisation. Sadly, she was pronounced dead shortly afterwards.
Although the exact cause of her death has yet to be confirmed, Rajpal believes the exhaustion and emotional toll of managing the funeral could have contributed. The woman’s remains will be cremated at the same location as the victim, Maniishapriet Kaur Akhara, on Jalan Loke Yew in Kuala Lumpur.
Family in Shock Following Consecutive Losses
The family is now grappling with two devastating losses in quick succession. The initial tragedy unfolded on 24 June, when Maniishapriet, a young and promising physiotherapy student at a university in Cyberjaya, was discovered dead inside her dormitory room. The shocking discovery has since shaken the university community and prompted a swift police response.
As investigations continued, police carried out a series of coordinated arrests spanning Johor Bahru and Negeri Sembilan. Between 9am yesterday and 2am today, officers detained two women and one man believed to be connected to the murder. It has been reported that the male suspect is the boyfriend of one of the victim’s roommates and was acquainted with Maniishapriet.
Family Grateful for Swift Police Action
Despite being overwhelmed by grief, Rajpal expressed his gratitude to the Royal Malaysia Police for their prompt action in the case. He admitted that due to the emotional strain and back-to-back tragedies, the family has been unable to stay updated directly with police on the investigation’s progress.
“I only learned through the news that three people have been arrested. We are very thankful for the police’s efforts and hope the truth will be revealed soon,” he told reporters.
This harrowing series of events has captured widespread public attention, with many expressing condolences and outrage over the senseless killing of the young student. The family is now appealing for privacy as they mourn both the tragic loss of Maniishapriet and the sudden death of their relative.
