A couple of lions who were being transported overseas, broke free and escaped from their container at Changi Airport on 12 December, according to The Straits Times.
One of the lions then climbed on top of its container before both lions were eventually shot by the veterinary and carnivore care teams with a tranquilizer gun.
The two lions are currently being cared for by Mandai Wildlife Group and recovering from their sedation.
It is unclear where exactly the incident happened.
Airline not disrupted
There were about 7 lions at the time in the shipment, although it is also unclear where they came from or where they were going.
SIA called in the group’s veterinary and carnivore care teams once the escape was discovered, and they said that the airline’s operations were not disrupted despite the incident.
And throughout the entire incident, the lions were within the safety netting that was installed around the containers.
Speaking to Straits Times, a spokesperson for Mandai Wildlife Group said that the lions had to be sedated to be transported to an animal quarantine facility in Mandi and are being monitored – they will remain in their care for now as they maintain close contact with SIA on the issue.
