UK Actor, Stephen Fry, posted a tweet on Twitter on 20 Jan 2022, 4:58pm with regards to a pending execution of Malaysian drug trafficker, Nagaenthran, in Singapore.
In his tweet, he mentions that Nagaenthran faces execution even though he is intellectually disabled, and also says that given his intellectual disability, he might not understand he is going to be executed and might think that he is going home heartbreakingly.
He also added an image of a note which describes the current plight of Nagaenthran and the back story of the events that lead to Nagaenthran being on death row.
He ended his tweet by tagging Singapore’s Prime Minister, Lee Hsien Loong and also mentioned President Halimah Yacob in it, pleading with them to save his life.
Current update on Nagaenthran’s case
Nagaenthran is set to go to the Court of Appeal on 24 Jan 2022 to appeal against his death penalty.
Five judges will be heading this session, and he is being represented by lawyer M Ravi.
He had previously been granted a stay of execution till November 2021 and was due for execution on 10 November but was tested positive for the virus a day before, resulting in the execution being postponed further.
