It was the day after my wedding and my husband had already started smoking again. I had asked him multiple times to quit smoking, but he never seemed to take me seriously.
We had been together for over four years and I thought that he was going to make the commitment to quit smoking, especially on our wedding day.
He had promised me that he would quit, but he lied.
I was enraged and demanded that he quit smoking immediately. He laughed and said, “Why did you marry me in the first place if you knew I smoked?” I was so angry I wanted to scream.
Of course, I knew that he smoked when we got married, but I thought he would eventually quit. I had hoped that by getting married, it would give him the motivation he needed to quit.
I had tried everything to get him to quit, from offering him money to begging and pleading with him. He always said that he would quit, but he never did.
I finally decided to take a stand and demand that he quit. I told him that if he didn’t quit, I would leave him. He was shocked and tried to talk me out of it, but I was determined.
Finally, he agreed to quit and said he would start the next day. I was relieved, but I was still worried that he wouldn’t follow through.
The next morning, I woke up to the smell of cigarette smoke. I was so angry that I could barely speak. I asked him why he was still smoking and he said he was stressed and needed it to relax. I told him that he was only using it as an excuse and that he needed to quit for good.
He said he would try, but I knew he wouldn’t. I was so fed up with his excuses that I told him that if he didn’t quit, I would leave him.
Finally, he agreed to quit and said he would start the next day. I was relieved, but I was still worried that he wouldn’t follow through.
But he has been going more and more often… I suspect he is still smoking behind my back.
What can I do? I said I will leave to scare him but I won’t really do it.
