A video has been recently uploaded online showing a group of wild boars walking at the vicinity of the Rail Mall, situated along Upper Bukit Timah Road.
At the time where the wild boars were spotted, the area was quite crowded with human traffic.
The family of four were seen walking at the car park area, before heading near to the main road where they walked along the pavement and disappeared thereafter.
They seem to just be just chilling and minding their own businesses, and no one was seen trying to go near them or provoke them though curious onlookers all stopped in their tracks to take a look at these creatures.
NParks advisory on encountering wild boars
According to an NParks advisory, here are the dos and don’ts should you encounter a wild boar or a group of them.
- Stay calm and stay away from the animal, do not attempt to feed or approach the animal.
- Keep a safe distance away and do not corner it or do things that will provoke it such as using flash when taking pictures.
- If a group of adult wild boars are seen with piglets, please stay away from them as they may have the instincts that you are trying to attack them and will be more protective and try to attack you especially when their young are around.
Penalties
For those who attempt to feed wildlife, there are penalties for your actions in Singapore under the Wildlife Act.
The amended Act states that for feeding of any of such wildlife, the fine for first time offenders will amount to a sum of not more than $5,000 and for repeated offenders, the fine can go up to a sum of not more than $10,000.
