A woman has been arrested in Thailand after allegedly killing and decapitating her elderly mother-in-law following a dispute inside a home in Phuket.
The shocking incident took place on the morning of August 1 in the Chalong subdistrict of Mueang Phuket district and is currently under police investigation.
Elderly Victim Found Dead Inside Home
According to Thai authorities, officers from Chalong Police Station were alerted to the incident at around 9.15am after receiving reports of a violent attack at a residence.
When police and emergency personnel arrived, they discovered the body of a 74-year-old woman inside the house.
Investigators said the victim had suffered multiple severe injuries believed to have been inflicted with a bladed weapon. A large amount of blood was found at the scene.
Daughter-in-Law Accused of Fatal Attack
Preliminary investigations indicate the victim had been alone in the house with her 36-year-old daughter-in-law when the pair allegedly became involved in a heated argument.
Police allege the younger woman assaulted the victim, causing her to fall, before repeatedly attacking her with a knife.
Authorities further allege that after the fatal assault, the suspect used the same weapon to decapitate the elderly woman.
The motive behind the attack has not yet been confirmed.
Neighbour Alerted Police
A neighbour who reportedly witnessed the incident contacted the authorities, leading officers to the home.
Upon entering the property, police found the suspect hiding inside a bathroom, where she was taken into custody without further incident.
She was later transported to the police station for questioning and legal proceedings.
Investigation Ongoing
Forensic officers, investigators and a duty doctor examined the crime scene and carried out an initial examination of the victim’s body.
Police said investigations are continuing to determine what led to the fatal confrontation and whether any additional factors contributed to the incident.
As of the latest update, authorities had not formally announced the charges that the suspect is expected to face.
