WOMAN ASKS WHAT TO CALL HER FIANCE’S PARENTS – “UNCLE/AUNTIE” OR “MOM/DAD”

long story short i didn’t call my partner’s parents “auntie, uncle” six years ago and now i can’t get myself to cause it’ll be so weird to just start… and they seem to be expecting it (?)

i know this seems like a small problem to have but just thinking about it makes all my cells shrink into the darkest crevices of my body

i didn’t call them that because i was scared they’ll be offended, you know how some people get offended when you call them auntie/uncle and it has happened to me before at a workplace.

but now it has backfired and seems like i’m disrespectful when i say hello and bye without saying auntie and uncle.

anyways my partner and i are planning to get married and im dreading the day i need to call them “dad/mom” i think i’ll die of shame, i don’t even think i can look at them in the eyes anymore…

i just wish it was the norm here for everyone to just use names instead idk

Wow don’t know how you manage to avoid addressing either of them for 6 years. True feat.

Just ask your partner to initiate a conversation

  • Partner: Mom, Dad, now that we are getting married, OP would like to know of how to address you. Is Mom/Dad ok or stick with uncle/auntie?
  • OP: acts like Uncle/Auntie was always the default

Don’t force it la
