A young woman in Malaysia is appealing for help after losing her wallet at a café, with CCTV footage appearing to show another customer picking it up and leaving with it.
The incident took place at a coffee outlet in the Lakefields area of Kuala Lumpur and has attracted widespread attention online after the footage was shared on social media.
According to the woman, she had been enjoying a drink with a friend before accidentally dropping her wallet while leaving the café. Unaware that it had fallen from her pocket, she walked away without noticing.
CCTV Footage Shows Wallet Falling To The Floor
Footage from the café’s surveillance cameras reportedly showed the wallet slipping out of the woman’s back pocket and landing beneath her chair.
Moments later, a woman seated nearby appeared to notice the wallet on the floor.
After the owner left the area, the customer was seen moving to the now-vacant seat. CCTV footage appears to show her using her foot to move the wallet closer before eventually picking it up.
The woman was later seen looking around before placing the wallet between her legs and subsequently concealing it before leaving the café.
The footage has since gone viral across Malaysian social media platforms.
Victim Says Replacing Documents Will Be Difficult
The owner of the wallet said she had only recently started working and earns a modest income.
According to her social media post, the wallet contained important items including her Malaysian identity card and bank cards.
She explained that replacing the documents would be costly and would place additional strain on her finances.
The woman added that she relies on public transport to commute daily and hopes the wallet can be returned.
Public Asked To Help Identify Woman
The victim and her family have since shared screenshots and video clips online in the hope of identifying the woman seen in the footage.
Many social media users have urged her to lodge a police report and hand the CCTV footage to the authorities for further investigation.
Others have called on the individual involved to return the wallet if it was taken unintentionally.
At the time of writing, it remains unclear whether the wallet has been recovered.
The incident occurred in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and has sparked widespread discussion online about honesty and what people should do when they find lost property belonging to someone else.
