Zubaidah Zainal Abidin, 58-years-old, was fined $3,000 on 13 December, after pleading guilty to a charge of using insulting words to a public servant.
She reportedly insulted one of the officers after her daughter was caught by enforcement officers for illegally smoking at a void deck.
What happened?
The incident happened on 6 March earlier this year; Certis Cisco enforcement officer Kalidassan Ngappan and an unnamed partner who were attached to NEA, caught Zubaidah’s daughter Nurul Sysqin Abdul Rahman for smoking at a void deck at a Bedok Reservoir HDB block.
Kalidassan asked for Nurul’s IC in order to issue her with a summons, to which she told him that she left her IC at home.
The officer then told her to get someone to bring it over to her, to which Zubaidah then got angry after hearing this and told him not to disturb them as they were having problems.
Zubaidah then said that there was no one at home to bring the IC over to Nurul.
Kalidassan then said that if Nurul’s identity couldn’t be determined with the IC, the police would have to be involved, to which Nurul then told her mother to go and get it.
Zubaidah later returned to with the IC but refused to give it to Kalidassan, and she asked how come the police were not present.
She was determined to not give the IC to the officer and called the police herself and while waiting for the police’s arrival, insulted Kalidassan in English and Malay as well as threatening to slap him in the face.
Nurul’s identity was then confirmed by the police who later arrived and relayed to Kalidassan.
Kalidassan later filed a police report against Zubaidah.
