WOMAN GOT INJURED AT WORK BUT CAN’T QUIT JOB BECAUSE OF HER $1K CONTRACT BOND

Injured at work that requires a lot of travelling and carrying heavy luggage, can’t quit because of 1k contract bond thingy

Job desc: Working FT as a house call manicurist – however few days back I had a bad fall down a flight of stairs as I was overworked and my luggage (17kg) dragged me down the stairs, landing on my tailbone.

Injury: I can’t really walk well due to this and it’s worsened because I have to always carry a very heavy metal luggage. Even sitting on the floor hurts it so badly and I haven’t gotten it checked. Sometimes it will hurt a bit, sometimes it hurts so bad I can’t even lift my foot and I’ll cry

Workplace: Doesn’t care if I’m injured, overworks employees for almost 12hours plus with no compensation or transport allowance. Welfare is also really bad and can’t take leave because they don’t have enough employees to cover up for the massive discount campaigns they’re having. In return we would always have to rush back to back across appointments, and most of the time I wouldn’t be able to even eat.

I want to leave but: the company stated that I would have to pay them $1000 for the training that they gave initially, as well as another $700 ish for the equipment. I don’t mind paying for the equipment but $1000 for the training is a lot.

Help needed: I will be going to polyclinic this week and probably do an X Ray as well, is there any way I can sort of “negate” and not pay for the $1k bond due to the injury? My company will most likely not foot for the injury and medical bills as they will surely claim that I fell down after my job has ended. I’m not sure if TAFEP/MOM or other agencies can help with this, as I can’t possibly suffer and keep working if my body is really so worn out.

Netizens’ comments

  • You should have reported the fall right away. Go see a doctor and get it documented asap. Report it to your company and MOM, file an accident report.
Your medical bills should be covered by your company.
  • This injury will cost you way more than 1.7k in the long run.
Stop working immediately, go to the a and e, tell them exactly what happened. Inform them of the pain, mention that your job is physical and that you need a medical cert (MC) and a doctor’s letter exempting you from any physical/strenuous activity pending further tests.
All these the doctor will know what to do. Doctors usually dgaf about what job ask you do or whatever, if you’re seriously at risk of further injury or pain, they don’t need much telling.
