A 34-year-old woman pleaded guilty to one count of intentionally aiding multiple men to obtain adult services of the victim, instigating someone to destroy electronic records that contained evidence against her, and indecent behavior in a public place.
She also pleaded guilty to two counts of Covid-19 breaches, with another 6 more charges being considered during her sentencing.
She was sentenced to 3 years in jail on Monday (10 January).
The identities of the parties involved cannot be named due to a court order protecting the victim’s identity.
What happoened?
The girl had run away from a children’s home on 3 July 2018 and the woman met her through her goddaughter – the victim then stayed with her in a flat in Chai Chee with a few other women.
The people who lived in the flat addressed the woman as “mama” because she bought necessities and food for them.
The woman was working as a prostitute and she advertised the victim’s services on Locanto between December 2018 to April 2019, claiming that she was 21 years old when she knew that she was only 16.
The victim was also a virgin at the time.
Prospective customers would contact the woman, who then sent them photos of the girl and arranged for them to meet.
She would then accompany the girl to the meet-up locations, including hotels and their flat where she provided explicit services for $100 for 30 minutes, $200 for an hour and $500 for 2 hours.
Some of the services were provided without condoms.
The woman also slapped the victim on at least one occasion over a customer dispute.
The victim handed all her earning to the woman (she earned up to $700 a day) and received an allowance.
It is unclear how the offences were discovered, although court documents did mention someone calling the police.
The woman was then arrested in May 2019 and she told her flatmate to delete evidence on her phone linking her to the victim.
She also broke Covid-19 rules on two occasions by providing service as a staircase landing.
