30-year-old Nouvelle Chua Roushi, who is being charged with involvement in the disposal of a 4-year-old’s body at Paya Ubi Industrial Park, stands accused of burning the body of Megan Khung Yu Wai in a metal barrel earlier this year.
33-year-old Wong Shi Xiang and 24-year-old Foo Li Ping, who is the biological mother of the victim, are facing the charge of killing 4-year-old Khung in a unit at Suites @ Guillemard condominium.
Chua’s defence counsel, Mr Thangavelu from Trident Law Corporation, has objected to her further remand, arguing that Chua’s charge only pertained to the disposal of the corpse and not of the murder itself, and that her case should be separate from Foo and Wong’s.
District Judge Terence Tay noted that this was only the third remand that the prosecution was seeking and given the severity of the charges against Foo and Wong, he was “minded to allow the request for further remand.
It is worth noting that Chua has been remanded for one more week, and permission has been given for her to be brought out to assist in investigations.
Foo and Wong are also to remain in remand at the moment.
Foo is being represented by lawyers Josephus Tan, Marshall Lim and Cory Wong on a pro-bono basis, whereas Wong is being represented by Vinit Chhabra from Vinit Chhabra.
Neither Tan nor Chhabbra voiced objections to the prosecution’s application to remand Foo and Wong for one more week.
