Singaporean YouTuber Rishi Krz announced in a video on November 23 that he has raised over $20,000 following a public appeal for donations to fight his legal battle with Leap Vista.
Rishi has now offered to refund the money to anyone who donated if he doesn’t end up getting sued at all.
Netizens may have heard or seen Leap Vista’s advertisements all over the internet, where they offer courses on how people can make money from e-commerce.
Rishi decried Leap Vista’s advertisements in a few videos, including one entitled “Exposing Singapore’s Marketing Gurus”.
Trident Law Corporation represented Leap Vista and sent Rishi a letter, claiming that his video infringed their intellectual property and damaged their reputation; to which Rishi started an appeal on GoGetFunding to raise funds for his impending legal war with Leap Vista.
Rishi then raised over $20,000 from his campaign before he halted it.
He revealed that he hadn’t used any of the money donated to him thus far, and touched on the Cease and Desist letter’s discrepancies:
“I genuinely didn’t know there’s a difference between a Cease and Desist letter versus getting sued. I was under the impression that [both] things are the same, and that’s why in the video I said ‘I am being sued.'”
Rishi also revealed that he has engaged a law firm of his own, taking their guidance on this debacle.
