On Wednesday (May 19), twin brothers who conspired with a woman to steal over SGD 57,000 from her family were sentenced to prison.
Oh Jia Kai 25-years-old, who is the boyfriend of the woman Tiffany Tan Hwee Shuan was sentenced to 15 weeks in jail. His twin brother, Oh Jia Cheng was sentenced to 9 weeks in jail.
A probation suitability report was called for Tan, as she asked the twin brothers to assist in her plan to steal valuables from her family. All 3 of them pleaded guilty to theft last month.
The incident happened on the night of July 11, when Tan’s brother and father were not at home. She started the plan by asking her mother out for supper while the twin brothers stand by near the flat.
When her mother got into the car, she lied to her mother that she forgot her handphone and went back home to ‘retrieve it’.
She took a Rolex watch worth SGD 11,500, 2 gold rings and cash from her brother’s safe. She also took SGD 34,000 from her father’s bag and a Louis Vuitton pouch.
In order to make it look like a break-in, she also stole all of her brother’s piggy bank. Jia Cheng then assisted to pack the stolen items into a car.
A few hours later, Tan’s father and brother realized that their valuables were missing and filed a police report. Tan then lied that 3,000 dollars were stolen to avoid being suspicious.
The 3 of them were caught red-handed when the police showed footage in which Jia Cheng can be seen with 2 bulky bags walking out of the lift.
Tan has since returned SGD 6,900 to her family.
