A 32-year-old Bangladeshi man was killed at a workplace accident on 26 August, at 60 Woodlands Industrial Park D Street 2, making him the 36th workplace fatality this year.
Load toppled on him
According to the Ministry of Manpower, the deceased, who was working as a rigger, was involved in unloading the base of a concrete lamppost via a lorry loader at a construction site.
However, the concrete load then toppled on him at about 1pm, and he was subsequently pronounced dead at the scene by a Singapore Civil Defence Force paramedic.
The worker was employed by Senda Construction and the developer of the site is GlobalFoundries, according to MOM.
GlobalFoundries expressed their sadness over the fatal incident and will be working with the authorities and their partner(s) with the investigations into the incident.
MOM investigating
MOM is investigating the incident, along with another fatal accident that took place at Kranji on 25 August, where a worker was run over by a forklift.
They added that they will be introducing further measures to strengthen workplace safety.
