The National Parks Board (NParks) said in a statement that a 37-year-old man who is believed to be involved in a number of cat slashing cases in Ang Mo Kio since April, has been arrested on 8 June.
He was arrested on Tuesday morning, in an operation by the Animal and Veterinary Service (AVS) and supported by the police.
He will be charged later today (9 June) with animal cruelty, which is an offence under the Animals and Birds Act.
More than 10 cats in Ang Mo Kio were found with slash wounds and the incidents occured around block 302, 316B, 335, 337, 3432 and 346.
Ms Jessica Kwok, the group director for AVS’ community animal engagement program, said that safeguarding animal welfare is a shared social responsibility.
She added:
“As with all investigations, all forms of evidence are critical to the process, and photographic and/or video-graphic evidence provided by the public will help.”
The public can report suspected cases of animal cruelty to AVS via the hotline 1800 476 1600.
