A 65-year-old man has been arrested by the Singapore Police Force after he allegedly watched obscene videos and harassed a couple inside a bus along Geylang on 2 September, resulting in the bus captain stopping the bus and calling the police for help, according to Shin Min Daily News.
The bus ended up being stopped for more than 3 hours as the police investigated the incident.
The Unsettling Encounter
The incident, occurred at around 11 PM on a Saturday night. Mr. Dou, an employee at a nearby mobile phone shop, was an unwitting witness to the bizarre events that transpired.
As he went about his evening at the store, a double-decker bus pulled up at the nearby bus stop, seemingly ordinary at first. However, the presence of police officers at the scene quickly hinted at something amiss.
The bus captain was standing outside, urgently making a call, and the situation took a puzzling turn when the story began to unfold.
A Disturbing Discovery
According to Mr. Dou’s account, an elderly man in his 60s had allegedly been engrossed in explicit content on his mobile device while aboard the bus.
To make matters worse, he had reportedly harassed a couple, igniting a conflict between them. The harassed couple, left deeply uncomfortable by the situation, eventually alerted the bus driver to the unsettling behavior occurring on board.
Upon receiving this distressing report, the quick-thinking bus driver wasted no time. He made an emergency stop and immediately contacted the police, prompting a swift response to the unusual scene that had unfolded on his bus.
As the police arrived and commenced their investigations, Mr. Dou observed the elderly man, now the center of attention, sitting inside the bus, presumably to give his statement.
The harassed couple, meanwhile, was engaged in conversation with another police officer, further adding to the intrigue of the situation.
As the hours ticked by, the bus remained parked at the stop, much to the bewilderment of onlookers and passersby.
The incident had brought the otherwise ordinary evening to a screeching halt, with curious spectators left wondering about the outcome.
The Singapore Police Force (SPF) confirmed that the 65-year-old man was arrested for public nuisance, shedding light on the severity of his actions.
While details about the subsequent legal proceedings remain scarce, the incident serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of disruptive and inappropriate behavior in public spaces.
Amidst the unfolding drama, an intriguing detail emerged. The bus captain, amidst the chaos, entered Mr. Dou’s store to request the loan of a pin for ejecting SIM cards from mobile phones.
This suggests that the police might have sought to extract the memory card from the elderly man’s phone, potentially as part of their ongoing investigation.
