Chan Suan Guan, 24-years-old, helped a loan shark to throw a Molotov cocktail into a house at Yio Chu Kang on 25 April 2020.
He was also found to break an offence under the Covid-19 (Temporary Measures) Act by leaving his home without a reasonable excuse that day to throw the Molotov at the home, which was during the circuit breaker.
He took a $30,000 loan from a loan shark but he could not repay it, he was then offered a job as a loanshark harasser.
Investigations revealed that he lit a bottle of thinner with a cloth before throwing it into a house in Yio Chu Kang.
He also allowed the loan shark to use his bank account to offset $250 worth of his debts a week.
He allegedly started his crime spree in November 2019 after he allegedly helped a certain “Kimberly” to carry out loan shark activities by handing over his ATM card and identification number linked to a bank account.
Separately, he is also being accused of causing the death of a motorcyclist with his van by driving recklessly.
He has since been sentenced to 11 months in jail, 3 strokes of the rotan and fined $63,000.
For causing the death of the motorcyclist he is banned from obtaining any driving license for 8 years.
