A video emerged online showing a taxi failing to give way to a cyclist who was crossing the road and running over him.
The accident happened on 7 March at about 10.19pm, along Pasir Ris Drive 1, and the entire incident was captured on a passerby’s camera.
The cyclist was seen cycling across the road when the traffic light was in his favour, just as another blue comfort taxi was making a turn towards his direction.
The taxi didn’t appear to be slowing down as he neared the cyclist, and ultimately ran over the cyclist – the impact sent the cyclist spinning 360 degrees and landing head-first onto the ground.
The netizen who took the video said that the cyclist was conscious but bleeding from his forehead, and he received help before being conveyed to the hospital.
Potential penalties
The penalty for failing to give way to pedestrians at a pedestrian crossing is a $200 fine and 6 demerit points.
