OVER 2,000 CARTONS OF CONTRA CIG SEIZED BY AUTHORITIES, 2 ARRESTED

According to the Singapore Customs, Two Singaporeans, aged 26 and 31 were arrested after more than 2,000 cartons of duty-unpaid cigarettes were found in an operation conducted on Thursday (10 March).

Singapore Customs officials saw two individuals standing in between two Singapore-registered vehicles with their side compartment doors open during the operation, which took place at a multi-story carpark near Yishun Street 42.

Many brown cartons were found in one of the vehicles. Officers conducted a search after suspecting the guys of trading in duty-unpaid cigarettes and discovered 2,016 cartons of duty-unpaid cigarettes.

Officers also discovered a bag suspected of containing restricted narcotics and drug paraphernalia. Which was referred to Singapore Police Force.

The duty-unpaid cigarettes and the two vehicles were confiscated, and the whole duty and penalties were assessed.

The amount of Goods and Services Tax (GST) avoided was between $172,160 and $13,700.
