Airbnb said on 28 April that their workers will be able to work from anywhere (their home, office or while traveling) permanently.
CEO of Airbnb, Brian Chesky, said in an email to staff that those who work in lower cost-of-living areas will not see their compensation change.
He also said in the email that the company would host regular in-person meet ups and retreats, as part of a broader shift at the company to accommodate remote work.
Chesky said that the world is becoming more flexible about where people can work, and that they see this in their own businesses.
He added that the company wouldn’t have recovered so quickly from the pandemic had it not been for the millions of people who worked from Airbnbs.
More than 150 updates have been added by Airbnb to include verified Wi-Fi connections in support of remote work trands.
The company is also working with the governments and travel destinations to ramp up support for those who are living abroad for a longer period while working.
