A woman in Singapore bought a packet of Cai Png from a coffee shop in Bedok and ended up finding an insect inside her food in the form of a curled up, green caterpillar.
The netizen, Ziwei Yong, shared on her TikTok account showing her inexplicable find inside her cai png, which included rice, vegetables and some slices of potatoes.
Tucked among the solid carbohydrates was the green caterpillar, which appeared to be dead, all curled up and unmoving.
Although at first glance, the caterpillar might’ve been mistaken for a piece of long bean, but on closer inspection, you can tell that it’s a caterpillar.
Disgusted with her find, Yong said that she immediately lost her appetite, and speaking to AsiaOne, she described it as being “not the worst meal” that she has had, although she mentioned that from now on she will be checking her food before eating it.
Netizens’ comments
- Don’t worry, it’s free
- natural source of protein
- it’s okay more protein
- Comfort yourself that it is just a bunch of wolfberries strung tog.

Not the first case of foreign things found in food
Earlier this week, a woman found a whole staple bullet inside a prawn roll from a packet that she had bought from Sheng Siong Supermarket.
She had bought the prawn rolls home and fried it, before cutting it into smaller pieces and that was when she discovered it.
She was initially planning to feed it to a child but thankful she managed to discover the staple bullet in time and didn’t give it to the kid.
And earlier this month, a woman found a lump of tissue inside her sugarcane juice drink that she bought from a hawker stall in Balestier.
The lump of tissue paper was found underneath the ice inside the cup and she only found it when she was about done with the drink.
She subsequently fell sick and they reported the incident to the Singapore Food Agency and the Police as well.
