In the early hours of January 11, 2024, a significant accident involving 9 vehicles unfolded on the Pan-Island Expressway (PIE), resulting in four motorcyclists and two pillion riders being taken to the hospital, according to Lianhe Zaobao.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) received alerts about a nine-vehicle collision along PIE towards Changi, just before the Thomson Road exit, at approximately 6:20 am.
Subsequently, another traffic accident broke out later in the day, less than 2 hours later, resulting in a Comfort Delgro taxi lying upside down on the road.
The 9-vehicle crash
The SCDF promptly responded to the incident, demonstrating the critical role of emergency services in such situations. Six individuals involved in the accident were conveyed to Tan Tock Seng Hospital, marking the swift response and conveyance by the SCDF.
The police said that the injured individuals ranged from 20 to 70 years old, comprising four motorcyclists and two pillion riders. The accident involved four cars and five motorcycles, and investigations are currently ongoing to determine the circumstances leading to this unfortunate incident.
Another Incident on the Same Day
Later in the day, at 8:03 am, another accident occurred on the same stretch of PIE towards Changi Airport. This time, it involved a tipper truck and a Comfort Delgro taxi. The collision led to the taxi overturning along the slip road leading towards Sims Avenue.
A photo of the overturned taxi circulated on Facebook group SG Road Vigilante – SGRV, highlighting the role of social media in sharing real-time information about road incidents. The police are actively involved in ongoing investigations for both accidents, with updates promised as soon as more information becomes available.
Comfort Delgro’s Response
A spokesperson from Comfort Delgro provided insights into the aftermath of the second accident. The company reached out to both the cab driver and the passenger, ensuring that they receive the necessary assistance. The injured passenger was conveyed to Tan Tock Seng Hospital.
They also added that they will provide the necessary assistance to the affected parties.
