Police in Thailand have gone viral online after pulling off an unusual undercover operation by disguising themselves as a dance troupe to arrest a suspected drug dealer.

The operation reportedly took place in Tha Luang district in Lop Buri province, where officers used colourful costumes and dance performances as part of a sting operation to approach the suspect without raising suspicion.

According to local reports, the suspect, identified as Mekha Fa-wap-wap, was eventually arrested on allegations linked to illegal drugs and gambling activities. Authorities also seized 53 methamphetamine pills along with a mobile phone during the operation.

Undercover Operation Draws Attention Online

Photos shared online showed several officers dressed in bright outfits typically associated with local performance groups, with some carrying musical instruments and appearing ready for a public celebration.

The creative tactic quickly attracted attention on social media, with many netizens praising the police for thinking outside the box to catch suspects involved in drug-related crimes.

Some commenters joked that the officers deserved acting awards, while others said the disguise was so convincing that the suspect never saw the arrest coming.

Thai authorities have not revealed how long the operation had been planned, but reports stated that officers successfully moved in once they confirmed the suspect’s identity and activities.

Methamphetamine Problem Remains Major Concern

Methamphetamine trafficking remains a major issue across parts of Southeast Asia, including Thailand, where authorities regularly conduct raids and anti-drug operations.

In recent years, Thai police have intensified efforts to crack down on narcotics syndicates, illegal gambling dens, and cross-border drug trafficking networks. Methamphetamine pills, commonly known locally as “yaba”, continue to be one of the most commonly seized drugs in the country.

The suspect is currently being held in police custody and is expected to face further legal proceedings.

The unusual arrest method has since become widely shared across regional media platforms, with many people amused by how far officers were willing to go to complete the mission successfully.
