A taxi driver in China was left horrified after discovering that a female passenger had allegedly defecated and urinated inside his vehicle during an early morning ride, leaving behind a powerful stench that reportedly could not be removed even after repeated cleaning attempts.
The bizarre incident reportedly happened in Nanchong, Sichuan province, during the early hours of May 27. According to Chinese media reports, the driver picked up the woman at around 3.11am and immediately noticed a strong foul smell coming from inside the car.
At first, he assumed the odour came from something stuck under the passenger’s shoes. However, he later realised the situation was far worse than expected.
The driver claimed the woman remained fully conscious throughout the journey and was even speaking to her boyfriend on the phone during the ride. He said there were no obvious signs that she was intoxicated or unconscious.
Driver Shocked After Discovering Human Waste In Vehicle
After dropping the passenger off, the driver reportedly inspected the back seat area and found what appeared to be faeces near the rear door sill, along with urine stains on the seats and floor mats.
Photos circulating on Chinese media platforms showed visible stains inside the taxi, with many online users expressing sympathy for the driver.
The driver later contacted customer service from ride-hailing platform Didi Chuxing to report the incident. He claimed he was initially advised to file a police report regarding the matter.
According to the driver, the smell became so severe that standard cleaning procedures failed to remove it completely. He eventually decided to replace the affected seats entirely after the waste allegedly seeped deep into the foam cushioning.
He said the replacement and cleaning process cost him more than RMB1,000, which is approximately S$190.
Driver Claims Income Was Affected After Taxi Taken Off Road
Apart from repair expenses, the driver also claimed he suffered additional financial losses because he could no longer continue operating the taxi while the vehicle was being cleaned and repaired.
He estimated his total loss exceeded RMB2,000, or around S$380, due to missed working hours and disruption to his livelihood.
In response, Didi Chuxing later issued a statement saying the company would cover the costs of replacing the seats and professionally cleaning the vehicle.
The platform also reportedly contacted the individual who booked the ride, urging them to apologise to the driver and compensate him for the damages caused.
However, the account holder allegedly claimed they did not personally know the woman who took the ride and said they were unable to contact her afterwards.
The strange case has since gone viral across Chinese social media, with many netizens debating whether the passenger may have been suffering from a medical condition or whether the incident was simply irresponsible behaviour. Others questioned why the woman continued the journey without informing the driver about what had happened inside the vehicle.
