A foreign tourist was taken to hospital and admitted to a psychiatric ward after allegedly causing a disturbance at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) while waiting for her flight to China.

The 27-year-old woman was reportedly at the International Departure Hall of KLIA Terminal 1 on Tuesday when her behaviour attracted the attention of airport personnel and other passengers.

According to police, the woman was allegedly shouting, running around the departure area, singing and dancing while waiting for her flight. The unusual behaviour reportedly continued for around 15 minutes, leaving passengers and airport staff concerned about the situation.

Woman Reportedly Questioned Travellers About Singapore And Japan

Videos and accounts circulating online also claimed that the woman was seen speaking to travellers in the airport transit area and asking questions about whether Singapore and Japan would “surrender”.

She was also reportedly seen pointing towards people and asking whether anyone was livestreaming the incident.

The unusual remarks quickly turned the airport waiting area into an unexpected spectacle, with passengers reportedly watching as the situation unfolded. However, the remarks circulating online should be treated as eyewitness or social media accounts rather than confirmed statements from police unless independently verified.

Police subsequently intervened and brought the woman to the Terminal 1 Police Station following the disturbance.

Woman Taken To Kajang Hospital And Psychiatric Ward

Police said the woman was suspected of having a mental health condition and was subsequently taken to Kajang Hospital for further assessment and treatment.

She was reportedly sedated before being admitted to the hospital’s psychiatric ward.

The incident highlights the challenges faced by airport security personnel when dealing with passengers experiencing an apparent mental health crisis, particularly in busy international terminals where unusual behaviour can quickly attract attention.

There were no reports indicating that other passengers were injured during the incident. The disturbance also reportedly ended without a wider security threat at the airport.

While the incident may have appeared bizarre to passengers who witnessed it, the woman’s condition means that the situation should be viewed primarily as a medical and welfare matter rather than simply an unusual airport spectacle.

KLIA is one of Malaysia’s busiest international aviation hubs, handling large numbers of travellers every day. Security and airport authorities are therefore required to respond quickly when passengers display behaviour that could potentially put themselves or others at risk.

The woman was ultimately taken away from the departure area and placed under medical care, bringing the unusual episode at KLIA to an end.
